The staff of the Embassy of Ukraine in Nigeria held a vibrant presentation of Ukrainian culture for the students of Abuja World Academy as part of the school’s International Day.
The children tried on traditional Ukrainian costumes, listened to the Ukrainian national anthem, performed a hopak dance, and actively engaged in learning about Ukraine’s history, symbols, and core values.
Embassy representatives spoke about the Zaporizhian Sich and the defenders of Ukrainian lands, the deep symbolic meaning of the vyshyvanka (embroidered shirt), Ukrainian hospitality, and the nation’s enduring aspiration for freedom.
The students had the opportunity to connect with Ukrainian heritage through traditional items such as motanka dolls, embroidered shirts, ritual towels (rushnyky), and a bulava — a symbol of hetman’s authority.
“We attach great importance to cultural dialogue, as it lays the groundwork for trust and builds genuine bridges between countries,” noted an Embassy staff member.
