Bilateral relations between Ukraine and the Federal Republic of Nigeria
1. Nigeria recognized Ukraine on 11 March 1992.
2. Date of establishing diplomatic relations: 10 December 1992.
3. Political relations:
September 2000: meeting between the President of Ukraine and the President of Nigeria during the UN Millennium Summit in New York. September 2007: meeting between the President of Ukraine and the President of Nigeria in the framework of the 62nd Session of the UN General Assembly.
23-25 November 1997: Ukrainian Government Delegation, headed by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, visited Nigeria; conduction of the first round of the political consultations between the foreign services.
23-26 May 2006: Nigerian Government Delegation headed by the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria visited Ukraine.
2-3 September 2008: working visit to Nigeria of the First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
27 September 2011: second round of bilateral political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the level of deputy ministers (Kyiv, Ukraine).
1 March 2016: meeting between the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria in the framework of participating in the High-Level Segment of the 31st Session of the UN Human Rights Council (Geneva, Switzerland).
25 May 2016: third round of bilateral political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the level of deputy ministers (Abuja, Nigeria).
5 April 2018: meeting between the Deputy Minister for Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine – Trade Representative of Ukraine with the Vice-President of Nigeria.
16 July 2021: telephone conversation between the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria.
4 August 2021: 4th round of bilateral political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the level of deputy ministers via videoconference.
4. Trade and Economic Cooperation:
In 2021the volume of trade with goods and services between the countries was USD 196.7 million. Export of goods was USD 188.4 million, which was by 271.8% more than in 2020, import was USD 8.3 million, which was more by 237.2% than in 2020. The balance was positive for Ukraine by USD 180.7 million.
The main items of Ukrainian export: cereals (46.6%); ferrous metals (40.2%); starchy products (3.6%); sugar and confectionery (2.1%); foodstuffs (1.4%); alcoholic and soft beverages and vinegar (1.4%); meat and fish products (0.9)%.
According to the information of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, as of 01.01.2022 around 10,000 nationals of Nigeria studied in Ukrainian universities
6. Legal basis:
1. Protocol on establishing diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the Federal Republic of Nigeria dated 10.12.1992.
2. Protocol on consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and of the Federal Republic of Nigeria dated 12.10.1998.
3. Memorandum of Understanding between the State Financial Monitoring Committee of Ukraine and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria concerning cooperation in the sphere of countering legalization (laundry) of criminal incomes and terrorism financing dated 17.10.2007.
4. Base agreement on cooperation between the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” and the Institute of Science and Technology, Yenagoa (Nigeria).
5. Memorandum of Understanding between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria concerning cooperation in the sphere of peaceful research and use of space (concluded in March 2019).
7. Ukrainian community: 127 nationals of Ukraine reside in Nigeria.
Bilateral relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Benin
1. Recognition of Ukraine: 9 January 1992.
2. Establishment of diplomatic relations: 10 April 1992.
3. Political relations:
There have been no higher-level contacts and high-level bilateral bodies.
4. Trade and Economic Cooperation:
In 2021 the volume of trade with goods and services between the countries was USD 50.9 million. Export of goods was USD 80.89 million, which was by 441.1% more than in 2020, import was USD 15 thousand, which was by 321.8% more than in 2020. The balance was positive for Ukraine by USD 50.873 million.
The main items of Ukrainian export: ferrous metals (74.8%); fertilizers (17.3%); meat and edible foodstuffs (3.7%); fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin (2.3%); vegetables (0.8%).
The main items of import from Benin: living animals (99.8%).
5. Cultural and humanitarian cooperation:
According to the information of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 6 nationals of Benin study in Ukrainian universities (as of 2021). Conclusion of a treaty with Benin on cooperation in the sphere of education is being considered.
6. Scientific and technical cooperation: none.
7. Legal basis:
The basic documents are the notes on establishing diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Benin (10 April 1992).
8. Ukrainian community: 9 nationals of Ukraine reside in Benin.
Bilateral relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Cameroon
1. Recognition of Ukraine: 17 June 1992.
2. Establishment of diplomatic relations: 21 October 1993.
3. Political relations:
April of 1997 and September of 2008 – meetings of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Cameroon.
4. Trade and Economic Cooperation:
In 2021 the volume of trade with goods and services between the countries was USD 117 million. Export of goods was USD 116.4 million, which was by 853.4% more than in 2020, import was USD 0.85 million, which was by 21.3% more than in 2020. The balance was positive for Ukraine by USD 115.56 million.
The main items of Ukrainian export: ferrous metals (87.1%); cereals (8.7%).
The main items of import from Cameroon: coffee and tea (83.7%); edible fruits and nuts (10.7%).
5. Cultural and humanitarian cooperation:
According to the information of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 457 nationals of Cameroon studied in Ukrainian universities in 2021.
6. Scientific and technical cooperation:
Training and professional development of Cameroonian specialists in Ukraine are prospective directions of Ukrainian and Cameroonian cooperation. The Cameroonian side is interested to expand bilateral cooperation with Ukraine in the spheres of education, training of specialists in agriculture, agricultural technology, information technologies, military and technical sphere, medicine, education and engineering.
7. Legal basis:
Treaty in the form of notes exchange between Ukraine and the Republic of Cameroon on establishment of diplomatic relations (14 October 1993).
8. Ukrainian community: 13 nationals of Ukraine reside in Cameroon.
Bilateral relations between Ukraine and the Togolese Republic
1. Recognition of Ukraine: 10 November 1993.
2. Establishment of diplomatic relations: 1 September 1999.
3. Political relations:
There have been no higher-level contacts and high-level bilateral bodies.
4. Trade and Economic Cooperation:
In 2021the volume of trade with goods and services between the countries was USD 35.303 million. Export of goods was USD 3.9 thousand, which was by 252.3% more than in 2020, import was USD 3.9 thousand, which was by 96.3% more than in 2020. The balance was positive for Ukraine by USD 35.3 million.
The main items of Ukrainian export: ferrous metals (52.6%); other ready textile products (21.5%); sugar and confectionary (11.2%); fats and animal or plant oils (5.3%).
The main items of import from Togo: edible fruits and nuts (99,9%).
5. Cultural and humanitarian cooperation:
According to the information of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 7 nationals of Togo studied in Ukraine in 2021.

Notes on establishing diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the Togolese Republic (1 September 1999).
Bilateral relations between Ukraine and the Gabonese Republic
1. Recognition of Ukraine: 10 January 1992.
2. Establishment of diplomatic relations: 1 September 1993.
3. Political relations:
In April 2011: the first official visit of the Head of the Foreign Service of Gabon took place. 29 November 2014: meeting between the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Gabon took place during the XVth Summit of the International Organisation of La Francophonie in Dakar took place.
4. Trade and Economic Cooperation:
In 2021the volume of trade with goods and services between the countries was USD 20 million. Export of goods was USD 19.55 million, which was by 180% more than in 2020, import was USD 0.54 million, which was by 540.4% more than in 2020. The balance was positive for Ukraine by USD 19.52 million.
The main items of Ukrainian export: meat and edible subproducts (56.3%); nuclear reactors and boilers, machines (11.6%); ferrous metals (11.6%).
The main items of import from Gabon: wood and wood products (97.9%).
5. Cultural and humanitarian cooperation:
According to the information of the Ukrainian State Centre for International Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 11 students from the Gabonese Republic studied in Ukraine in 2021.
6. Scientific and technical cooperation: none.
7. Legal basis:
The basic documents are: Joint comuniqué on establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the Gabonese Republic dated 01.09.1993 and the Protocol on political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Gabon dated 06.04.2011.
8. Ukrainian community: tiny.
9. Diplomatic representation of Ukraine: the Embassy of Ukraine in Gabon functioned from October 2007 to June 2012. Currently the Gabonese Republic belongs to the zone of responsibility of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
