On 20 October 2026, the Nigerian health authorities reported a case of Ebola virus disease (Bundibugyo virus).
According to the Nigerian health authorities, the infected individual arrived in Nigeria from Uganda by air. The relevant authorities are currently conducting contact tracing and monitoring individuals who may have been exposed to the virus.
Ebola is a severe infectious disease that can cause serious complications and may be fatal. The virus is transmitted through direct contact with the blood or other bodily fluids of an infected person, as well as objects contaminated with these fluids.
The Embassy urges all Ukrainian citizens residing in or temporarily staying in Nigeria to remain vigilant and take appropriate preventive measures.
The Embassy recommends:
Avoid direct contact with individuals showing symptoms of infectious diseases, including fever, severe weakness, vomiting, or diarrhoea.
Avoid contact with blood, bodily fluids, and personal belongings of individuals suspected of being infected.
Wash your hands regularly with soap and water and maintain good personal hygiene.
Avoid contact with wild animals, particularly bats and primates, and refrain from consuming bushmeat of unknown origin.
Closely follow official updates from the Nigerian health authorities and comply with their recommendations.
If you have had possible contact with an infected person or have visited an area affected by an Ebola outbreak, monitor your health for 21 days following your last possible exposure.
Please note!
Early symptoms of Ebola may include fever, headache, muscle pain, general weakness, and sore throat. Vomiting, diarrhoea, and other complications may develop as the disease progresses.
If you experience any of these symptoms, particularly following possible exposure to an infected person, immediately contact a healthcare provider by telephone, inform them of your symptoms and potential exposure, and follow their instructions on how to seek medical care safely.
In cases of suspected Ebola infection, do not visit a healthcare facility without first contacting medical professionals for guidance.
The Embassy continues to monitor the epidemiological situation and will provide updates on significant developments through its official communication channels.
