On July 27 at the territory of the French Institute in Abuja, provided by the Embassy of France, Nataliya Gumenyuk, an outstanding Ukrainian journalist, documentarian and author, specialist in covering military conflicts, Co-founder of The Reckoning Project, CEO Public Interest Journalism Lab, held a lecture, dedicated to the war crimes of the Russian army on the territory of Ukraine.
The event was attended by representatives of Nigeria's leading media, opinion leaders, writers, representatives of the Nigerian publicity and members of the foreign diplomatic corps accredited in Abuja.
They were informed about the destruction of civilian objects, critical infrastructure objects, torture and killing of civilians, deportation of children, etc.
In the context of Russia's withdrawal from the grain agreement, the topic of aid that Ukraine provides to Africa, the delivery of grain and the destruction of grain warehouses by Russia was separately addressed.
The lecturer paid special attention to the creation of the International Tribunal, the mechanisms of its functioning, perspectives, steps taken, and justification of the need to bring war criminals to justice.
Ambassador Ivan Kholostenko thanked the guests and addressed on the need to convey information about the current situation in Ukraine, the crimes of the Russian Federation and the destruction of the international security system, including provoking the threat of famine.
At the end of the lecture, an active discussion took place. Participants expressed their position on the prospects of bringing war criminals to justice and creating a legal precedent that may serve as a safeguard against the commission of war crimes in the future.
