The UN World Food Program Office in Nigeria, which ensured the transportation of grain, hosted a joint press conference.. Ambassador of Ukraine to Nigeria Ivan Kholostenko, WFP Country Director David Stevenson, as well as representatives of the Embassies of donor countries, including Great Britain, Canada, Norway, Finland, France and Sweden, spoke before the media.
Dr. Christopher Fomuño, a member of the International Coordination Group for the Prevention of Hunger (ICGPH), which ensures the functioning of the Grain from Ukraine Program, was a special guest at the event. Dr. Fomuño is currently in the United States, hence he addressed the audience with words of congratulations by video.
During his speech, the Ambassador of Ukraine assured that Ukraine is ready to perform as the guarantor of the world food security despite the ongoing armed aggression of the Russian Federation. He noted that since the beginning of the Grain from Ukraine initiative, Ukraine has already sent 170,000 tons of wheat to countries with the most difficult food situation, including Ethiopia, Somalia, Yemen and Kenya. The Ambassador thanked the representatives of the UN World Food Program and donor countries for their participation in the humanitarian program and the representative of the Nigerian government - for recognising the humanitarian aid. The head of the diplomatic mission especially noted that Ukraine was and remains a friend and a reliable partner of the Nigerian people.
