Ambassador of Ukraine to Nigeria Ivan Kholostenko gave a comment to Nigerian media, in which he strongly condemned Russia’s strike on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra – one of Ukraine’s most important spiritual shrines and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

▪️ The damage to the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is an attack not only on Ukraine’s civilian population, but also on our religious and cultural heritage.

▪️ Attacks on religious sanctuaries are assaults on the values and beliefs that unite people regardless of nationality or faith.

▪️ The strike on the Lavra, which enjoys international protection under UNESCO and the 1954 Hague Convention, constitutes a grave violation of international law and requires a strong international response.

▪️ Those responsible for the destruction of Ukraine’s cultural and spiritual heritage must be held accountable, and the international community must do everything possible to ensure that such attacks never happen again.
