Ambassador addressed the Nigerian media with a statement on the growing number of appeals from families of foreigners who have gone missing after being deployed to Russia's war against Ukraine.

The Ambassador emphasized that Russia continues to recruit citizens of African countries into its army through deceptive promises of employment, education, and high salaries. Instead, foreign recruits often find themselves on the frontline without adequate military training, facing a high risk of death.

Particular attention was drawn to the Ukrainian humanitarian initiative “I Want to Find”, which helps families obtain information about missing persons and prisoners of war.

Ivan Kholostenko urged citizens of Nigeria and other African countries to exercise caution when considering suspicious job offers in Russia and called on governments across the region to strengthen efforts to counter recruitment networks.

“No amount of promised money is worth a human life,” the Ambassador stressed.
