November 27, 2012, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Federal Republic of Nigeria hosted the event «Light a candle», dedicated to honor the memory of the victims of Holodomor, and in connection with the 80 anniversary of the beginning of Great Famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine.
The event was attended by foreign diplomats, accredited to Nigeria, the citizens of Ukraine, temporarily or permanently residing in this country, employees of the Embassy as well as the members of their families.
Ambassador of Ukraine V. Vasyliev addressed the audience with a short speech on the historical consequences for the Ukrainian people of artificial famine created by the Soviet regime on the Ukrainian lands.
Participants lit candles and honoured the memory of the Holodomor victims by minute of silence.
