On September 28, 2018 an international action was held at the Embassy of Ukraine in Nigeria to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor "Light up a candle of memory!".

Ambassador briefed the audience on the causes and consequences of the Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-1933 as well as on the work carried out by the diplomatic mission on the recognition of the Holodomor by the Nigerian side as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people.

The names of 85 children from Sumy region killed during the Holodomor of 1932-1933 were read and their memory was commemorated by a minute of silence.
